Calf implants also known as calf augmentation is a surgical procedure wherein solid silicone is placed in the lower legs to lend a proper or desired shape to the calf muscles. Calf implants are mostly a cosmetic treatment or surgery but often they are opted for due to congenital or physical defects.

People often do not develop proper calf muscles. This could be for a number of reasons. Some people naturally have underdeveloped leg muscles, skinny legs are also common among men and women, deformities owing to polio, clubfoot, spina bifida and others are also the cause for leg deformities. While many men and women opt for exercises to address the problem yet it has been seen that despite proper training and shaping of all body muscles, the calf muscles do not respond to the exercises or do not transform to a desirable shape and volume. Fullness or an inflated fluffiness that is strong and well shaped is the desire of almost all men and women who opt for calf implants.

When it comes to calf implants there are quite a few surgeons who are extensively experienced in this kind of surgery. Calf implants  surgeons specialize in this procedure and surgeons who haven’t had prior expertise in it are not your ideal choice. Calf implants vary from other cosmetic surgeries in various aspectsit is best to have a surgeon that is familiar with the procedure.

Calf implants are an invasive surgery but it doesn’t pose any threat to the normal health or structure of the human body. Typically, men are required to undergo blood and urine tests prior to the procedure while women have to opt for a pregnancy test in addition to these. The procedure is conducted as an outpatient surgery under general anesthesia. The two factors that are given most significance to are whether or not the silicone is placed firmly where it should be and that it doesn’t move once the surgery is done which can otherwise lead to infection. Typically, after calf implant surgeony we would advice a day or two of absolute rest and normal patients can resume work and other common activities in about a week. The recovery is subject to a patient’s overall health and also the advisories from the surgeon. The results become noticeable in a few weeks time.
