What is Liposuction?

Fat deposits below the skin are vacuumed out using a hollow stainless steel tube commonly referred to as a cannula. Although the procedure takes longer using a smaller cannula, the Vein and Liposculpture Center always does so to keep the skin as smooth as possible.

Some of the most popular areas for liposuction are abdomen, thighs, arms, buttocks, and back. These areas tend to be resistant to diet and exercise and for many people, liposuction is the only way to remove the fat in these areas.

Abdominal Liposuction

The abdomen is the most popular area to have liposuction performed. Women who have given birth have had their abdominal muscles stretched. This tends to make the lower abdomen to push out,  deprecating the curve that many women hope to attain. Liposuction will usually produce the desired results. However in more extreme cases a tummy tuck may better serve the patient.

It’s important to know that there are 2 distinct locations of fat in the abdominal region. Subcutaneous fat is located directly beneath the skin and deep abdominal fat is located on the intestines. Subcutaneous fat can be safely removed using liposuction. Deep abdominal fat cannot. It must be removed through diet and exercise.

Liposuction of the Arms

This procedure is performed almost exclusively on women. Pockets of fat accumulate under the upper arms. Many women in El Centro like to wear sleeveless blouses and shirts and are self conscious of their arms. Liposuction is performed around the entire arm so that there is no flap of skin left hanging down. The result is a smooth rounded arm.

Liposuction of the Thighs

Removing too much subcutaneous fat from the thighs can cause the skin to have ripples or pockets. At the Vein & Liposcupture Center depending on the amount of subcutaneous fat we may schedule more than one liposuction session for your thighs.

Liposuction of the Buttocks

To achieve the best results, the Vein and Liposculpture Center always uses the smallest cannula and multiple tiny incisions to preserve the rounded symmetry of the buttocks. With a reshaped posterior, clothes fit better and patients report a very high degree of satisfaction.

Liposuction of the Back

There are several areas of the back that liposuction can be performed on for great effect. These include the area just below the shoulder blades but above the waist, the area near each armpit, middle of the back near the tailbone, and the top middle of the back near the neck.

Is Liposuction Painful?

Liposuction is usually performed using one of 3 methods of anesthesia. Local anesthesia, general anesthesia, and heavy IV sedation.

What are the Different Methods of Liposuction?

Tumescent Liposuction

This method of Liposuction uses large quantities of a diluted local anesthesia. It is injected into the subcutaneous fat. This causes the targeted areas to become tumescent, or swollen and firm. Local anesthesia is the safest form of anesthesia. The effects of this local anesthesia persist for many hours reducing the need for narcotic pain medications after surgery.

Modified Tumescent Liposuction

This type of liposuction uses local anesthesia plus general anesthesia or heavy IV sedation. If heavy IV sedation is used it is always administered by an anesthesiologist.

Vaser Liposuction

Vaser Liposuction is similar to tumescent liposuction but uses ultrasound to help reshape your body. Fat cells in the back are much more fibrous making them more difficult to remove. Areas that have been liposuctioned before tend to be more fibrous as well. It melts the fat to make it easier to remove but has the benefit of helping tighten the loose skin by the heat generated.
